Lighting
Lutron lighting, designed into the house.
Keypads, dimmers, and scenes replace a collection of smart bulbs. The room recalls a setting. Guests do not need an app to turn on a light.
This is not a DIY bulb project.
Consumer bulbs are easy to buy and tiring to live with. They fall offline, they disagree about what “evening” means, and they ask every person in the house to carry the same app. Lutron lighting is the other tradition: equipment designed into the rooms, commissioned as a system, and left alone.
Solutions are built with Lutron technology. That is not a claim of authorized-dealer or certified-installer status.
What a lighting design can cover.
- Control
Smart dimmers, keypads, and whole-home lighting control, including occupancy and vacancy behavior where it helps.
- Scenes
Morning, evening, entertainment, and away — the settings you will actually recall, not a catalog of twenty.
- Schedules
Exterior lighting and interior paths that follow the day without a nightly routine of tapping a phone.
- Shades and network
When shades are in the project, scenes can coordinate both. The network is planned so remote features are not the fragile part of the house.
A keypad is the interface that does not expire.
Engraved buttons for the scenes that matter let anyone operate the room. The app is there for changes and for remote use. It is not required to walk in and have light. That distinction is the difference between a gadget and a finish.
If voice control across lighting, shades, and other systems is part of the brief, Josh.ai can sit above this layer. It is optional. Integration depends on the equipment selected for the house.
Light and shade, as one gesture.
Morning: selected shades rise and the lighting eases back. Evening: shades lower and interior light takes over. A film: shades close and the room dims. Those are design choices, made when both systems are in the project. A lighting-only house is not described as if the windows already move.
See motorized shades for the daylight side of the same idea.

Questions worth asking
Is this different from smart bulbs?
Yes. The dimmers, keypads, and scenes are part of the house. A guest can use a keypad without an app. Scenes recall a room, not a single lamp. The lighting is designed, then it stays out of the way.
Can we still use switches if the network is down?
Local control is a reason to use a professional lighting system. Keypads and dimmers in the rooms are there so daily life does not depend on a phone. Remote features are separate from walking into a room and setting the light.
Do you integrate shades with the lighting?
When shades are part of the project, scenes can coordinate both. Lighting-only projects do not imply shade control. If shades matter, they should be in the design from the start.
Does Lutron require a particular voice assistant?
No. A Lutron system is useful from its own keypads and app. Josh.ai or another control system can sit on top when the home should respond to natural voice across more than lighting. Compatibility depends on the equipment selected.
Design the lighting.
Bring the way the rooms are used. The keypads and scenes are drawn from that, not from a default program.
